Brevin Miller Wins Javelin Throw at #HLTF Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field team finished day one of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships in second place, boosted by Brevin Miller's javelin victory.
After the first full day of competition, the Mastodons sit in second place (25 points) and are only three points behind Youngstown State (28 points).
Miller was named javelin champion after throwing a personal-record 57.51 meters, earning 10 points for the 'Dons. Alex Evans added four points to the Purdue Fort Wayne tally with a fourth-place finish in the event, throwing a personal-record 52.98 meters. Owen Kaufman also notched a javelin personal record with a 39.08 meter mark, earning 10th. Senior Zyler Johnson threw his first collegiate javelin throw, placing 11th with a 38.10 meter throw.
Freshman Josiah Bird placed third in the discus throw, punching in six Purdue Fort Wayne points after a 48.71 meter mark. Hunter Crew launched a 43.58 meter throw, earning eighth and a point for the 'Dons total. Denton Jacobs threw a 41.79 meter mark for 10th. Johnson also threw in the discus, placing 11th with 41.13 meters.
Austin Hall was the lone Mastodon seen in the 10,000 meters. His time of 30:11.79 finished sixth for three Purdue Fort Wayne points.
The 'Dons moved two 1500 meters runners onto the finals after the qualifying rounds. Sam Dunnett led the Mastodon runners, crossing the finish line in 3:52.84 for fifth. Nicholas Mills will also be moving on to the next round after a ninth place finish in 3:53.16. Freshman Boden Genovese finished just a spot behind the qualifying mark, sitting 10th with a 3:53.51 time. Jarred Neff finished the event in 4:02.02 for 19th.
Freshman Luca Merita finished day one of his first collegiate decathlon. Merita finished his first collegiate appearances in the 100 meter dash (11.28), long jump (5.75 meters) and shot put (11.25 meters) on day one. The freshman sits in seventh with 2510 points.
