
IPFW Splits Doubleheader at Butler

Game Two Box Score
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – IPFW split a doubleheader against the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday. Butler took game one by the final score of 4-2. The 'Dons came back to win game two 7-1.
Game one was a seven inning game, while the second game of the day was a full nine innings. Carter DeBoe led the way for IPFW with a 2-for-2 day in game one. He recorded an RBI and also scored a run.
Butler scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Michael Hoscheit got the inning started by drawing a walk. Radley Haddad followed in the lineup and smashed a pitch to right field. Daren Boss jumped at the wall, but the ball continued to carry contacting the very top of the fence. Hoscheit moved to third on the double and an RBI bunt from Jack Dillon made the game 1-0 Bulldogs.
Butler tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. Travis Reboulet struck out Marcos Calderon to begin the inning, but then gave up back-to-back singles. Reboulet battled back to record another strikeout with two on, but he would eventually load the bases after hitting Hoscheit. Haddad hurt the Mastodons for the second time in the game by hitting a two RBI single to centerfield.
Carter DeBoe put the Mastodons on the scoreboard for the first time. DeBoe blasted his second home run of the season over the right field wall to lead off the fourth inning. Clay Hathaway helped the cause with a leadoff triple in the top of the sixth. Hathaway made the score 3-2 by crossing the plate on an RBI single from Daren Boss.
A sacrifice fly gave Butler an insurance run in the bottom of six. Nathaniel White took the mound and struggled to find the strike zone. The Bulldogs loaded the bases after three straight walks. Gelwicks flied out to right field which put the game at 4-2.
Travis Reboulet took the hill for IPFW in game one. Reboulet threw five innings and struck out three batters. Nathaniel White finished the game. He gave up one earned run in the final inning of the game.
Butler struck first in game two at Bulldog Park. Haddad singled to right and went to second after a Hoscheit walk. Jimmy Risi drove the run in with a single to right field. The 'Dons responded by taking a 2-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Cody O'Neal sent Malcolm White to the plate for the first run of the inning. Shane Trevino gave IPFW the lead after scoring on a fielder's choice at bat by Caleb Fenimore.
IPFW kept the momentum with back-to-back singles to start the third inning. DeBoe pushed the lead to 4-1 after clearing the bases with his first triple of the season. A Malcolm White single allowed DeBoe to score.
IPFW took advantage of some wild pitches to score in the top of the seventh. Hathaway made a great hustle play to reach first base as the leadoff hitter in the inning. Hathaway bunted to the right side of the infield. He beat the pitcher in a foot race and ended the play diving head first. Wild throws allowed Hathaway to reach second and third. He made the game 6-1 by scoring on a passed ball. A sacrifice fly by Malcolm White pushed the lead to 7-1.
Hathaway had two of IPFW's nine hits in game two. DeBoe and Malcolm White each added two RBI's each. Jason Kalber earned the win for IPFW. He threw six solid innings and struck out a game-high eight batters. Steve Danielak finished off the Bulldogs, throwing the final three innings. He limited Butler to just one hit.
The final game of the four-game series between Butler and IPFW will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
