IPFW Baseball to Host Dayton on Tuesday

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Dayton Flyers are 11-17 overall during the 2012 season. The team most recently lost 2-of-3 games at home against Saint Louis. Game one of the three-game series was action packed as the Flyers held on to a 13-12 win. They were defeated 7-3 on Saturday and suffered a 12-5 setback on Sunday.
The Flyers got off to a rocky start in 2012 as they began the 2-9 with a stretch of road games. They won back-to-back games for the first time in early March by recording a 12-1 win over Austin Peay, followed by a 13-9 victory over Northern Illinois.
Dayton has a few opponents on the schedule that have faced or will face the Mastodons. They took a midweek visit to Indianapolis to face the Butler Bulldogs, losing by the final score of 8-5. The Flyers also hosted Summit League foe Oakland in their home opener, winning that game 11-5. Oakland stayed in town and lost the second meeting 8-7. Dayton will face Evansville and Ohio later on this season.
Dayton has three key players that have started in all 28 games this season. Brian Blasik is a dangerous player that can impact the game in many ways. Blasik leads the team with a batting average of .342. 15 of his 40 hits on the year have been doubles. He also has one triple and one home run giving him 22 RBI. Blasik holds an on-base percentage of .416 and once he is on, pitchers have to become aware as he also leads the club in stolen bases with 16.
C.J. Gillman comes into Tuesday's contest with a batting average of .336 (37-for-110). He leads the team in RBI with 28. Gillman has four doubles and one home run under his belt. Like many of his teammates, Gillman will run once getting on base as he has nine steals on 11 attempts.
Bobby Glover has the unique combination of power and speed. Glover is the home run king on this team with six. He has eight doubles and three triples while maintaining a batting average of .322. He is second on the team in steals, swiping 15 in 18 attempts.
Parker Schrage is expected to get the start on the mound for Dayton on Tuesday. Schrage is still searching for his first win of the season as he is 0-6 on the year. The right-handed pitcher has made nine appearances and Tuesday will be his fifth start of the season. He holds an ERA of 7.36 and has 14 strikeouts in 29.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .380 against Schrage, he has surrendered eight doubles, a triple, and two home runs on the year.

- Chuck Weaver was named Summit League Co-Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance against Nebraska Omaha in the home opener.
- Daren Boss leads the team with a .297 batting average. He went 4-for-5 against the Mavericks on Friday afternoon.

- The 'Dons swept a three-game series for the first time under head coach Bobby Pierce this past weekend.

- Steve Danielak is a triple threat for the 'Dons on game day. Danielak can be found on the lineup card as the designated hitter or as an outfielder. Coach Pierce also calls on Danielak to come out of the bullpen. He leads the team with three saves.

IPFW will jump into Summit League play this weekend as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits visit Mastodon Field for a four-game series. Game one will be played on Friday, April 6 at 3 p.m. Saturday will feature a doubleheader with the first game starting at noon. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday. It will also start at noon.
