
Offense Erupts as 'Dons Sweep Day in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The IPFW offense erupted for 22 runs over two games, topping Bradley 12-2 in five innings, before needing eight frames to beat Central Michigan 10-6.
Brittany Kachur went 5-for-9 on the day with five runs scored and three RBI's, while freshman Hilary Kartman went 4-for-9 with seven RBI's and a pair of runs scored, including her first collegiate home run. Miranda Kramer and Sara Lazarowich each picked up wins for IPFW in the pitcher's circle.
In the opener, the Mastodons, now 5-3 on the season, scored in all five innings of the game, including a pair of runs in the first inning, the first when Kachur doubled home Larissa Franklin, before Kachur was chased in on a Kartman single.
In the second inning, back-to-back errors put Megan Flenniken and Audrey Mintari on base, before another error loaded the bases with one out. After a force-out at home, Alex Bousquet tripled in three, giving IPFW a 5-0 lead.
The third inning saw Kachur hit a bases-loaded infield single to score Flenniken, before Mintari drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning and Flenniken later scored on a wild pitch.
Bradley scored twice in the fifth inning, before Kartman closed the game when Kachur opened the fifth inning with a double, before Alex Bousquet singled into left field. An Ashleigh Bousquet walk loaded the bases before Kartman cleared them with a grand slam, closing the game with a 12-2 final score.
Kachur was 3-for-4 on the day with three runs scored, as Alex Bousquet and Kartman each were 2-for-4, with Kartman leading the team with five RBI's. Miranda Kramer went the entire five innings, striking out four and giving up two earned runs while scattering eight hits.
Against Central Michigan the Mastodons found themselves trailing 2-0 through two innings, before Ashleigh Bousquet tied up the game with a two-run single in the top of the third inning, before Pugh gave the 'Dons a 3-2 lead with a single that scored Ashleigh Bousquet.
Stephanie Beuther opened the fourth inning with a home run to center field, her second homer of her career, before the Chippewas scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at 4-4.
Neither team would score in the fifth, sixth, or seventh innings, sending the contest into extra time, where IPFW erupted for six runs, batting around in the inning, and holding on for the 10-6 win.
Pugh was 4-for-5 in the game, as four others; Kachur, Alex Bousquet, Ashleigh Bousquet, and Kartman, each had two hits. Franklin, Kachur, and Beuther each scored twice, while Kartman and the two Bousquets each drove in two.
Sara Lazarowich picked up her first career victory, pitching the final three innings of the game, giving up one earned run and walking one. Flenniken started the game, striking out five in five innings of work, giving up a trio of earned runs.
The Mastodons close the Lobo Classic when the team plays tournament host New Mexico at 1 p.m. EST.
