
Men’s Tennis Earns Tournament Bid with 5-2 Win

MACOMB, Ill. – The IPFW men's tennis team earned a spot in the 2013 Summit League Championship Tournament by defeating Western Illinois on Sunday 5-2. The 'Dons will host the tennis championships on April 26-27.
“I couldn't be more proud of our team for how hard we fought today,” Brett Barnett explained. “It was a tough match in windy conditions, but we were determined to win. We are excited to be in the tournament and are ready to get back to work tomorrow!”
IPFW won the doubles point with a huge win at the No. 2 spot. Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas won 8-5 in No. 1 Doubles to tie the series at 1-1 and the tandem of Jonathan Raa and Gerard Guell won a tie breaker to record a 9-8 win in No. 2 Doubles.
The 'Dons won four of six in singles competition with Kang picking up the first win of the day 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 Singles. Connor Andrews finished with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot and the team would go on to win their ninth match of the season as Guell sealed the win with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 Singles.
Rounding out the IPFW win total was Freitas who defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-3 in No. 4 Singles.
