Sonia Solis Records Five RBIs in Doubleheader at Eastern Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Sonia Solis recorded five RBIs in a doubleheader despite Purdue Fort Wayne softball's two losses to Eastern Illinois on Wednesday (April 6).
GAME 1 | Eastern Illinois 13, Purdue Fort Wayne 8
Purdue Fort Wayne led 7-2, but Eastern Illinois rallied late to get a 13-8 win in the opener.
Freshman Gracie Brinkerhoff (2-7) took the loss in the circle for Purdue Fort Wayne.
Solis went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Mastodons. Alise Hale compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Epiphany Hang also helped out for Purdue Fort Wayne, knocking in a solo home run in the last inning.
The Mastodons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Hale came across to score the lone run of the inning for Purdue Fort Wayne and get the 'Dons on the board.
The Panthers then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Mastodons got back on the board in the second. The Purdue Fort Wayne offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Solis and a two-run single from senior Emma McMillan, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne held Eastern Illinois scoreless before building their lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning. The Mastodons picked up a run on Hale's leadoff home run off freshman Kaitlyn Reifsteck.
Purdue Fort Wayne gave up the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the scoreboard in the seventh trailing 13-7. The Mastodons picked up a run on Hang's leadoff home run off freshman Alexa Rehmeier, bringing the score to 13-8 in favor of Eastern Illinois.

Eastern Illinois won a pitchers' battle in the nightcap, getting a walk-off win in the seventh inning.
Shaina Eyre (1-10) threw an effective seven innings for the Mastodons, bringing a 2-1 lead into the final frame.
After Eastern Illinois took a 1-0 lead, the 'Dons held the Panthers scoreless for five straight innings. Hale evened the score when she scored in the third of a sacrifice fly from Solis.
The Mastodons got what would have been a go-ahead home run from Taryn Jenkins in the sixth, but Eastern Illinois knocked in two runs in the seventh on a double to left field.
