West Lafayette, IN - Garrett Segraves went 3-for-4, while Caleb Fenimore went 2-for-4 as the Mastodons fell to the Boilermakers of Purdue University by an 8-1 final score on Tuesday afternoon at Lambert Field on the campus of Purdue.

Purdue reached the scoreboard first with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, before the Mastodons chipped away at the deficit with their only run of the game when Fenimore led off the frame with a single to right field.

Segraves, the next batter, singled through the right side, sending Fenimore to second. After back-to-back outs, A.J. Christensen singled to center field on the first pitch he saw, scoring the Mastodon catcher from second.

After seeing the margin closed to two, the teams battled through two straight scoreless innings before Purdue scored twice in the sixth, once in the seventh, and two more in the eighth, to give the game its 8-1 final score.

Between Segraves and Fenimore, the pair combined for five of the team's eight hits, with Will Faulkner, Christensen, and Brett Clark picking up the team's other three hits.

Ryan August picked up the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season, pitching the first four innings of the game, giving up three runs on four hits. Matt Ransbottom pitched two innings, with A.J. Risedorph and Steve Danielak each pitching an inning.

Calvin Gunter picked up the win after pitching the first four innings of the contest, improving to 2-0 on the season, while Tyler Spillner picked up three of the team's 11 hits, as Kevin Plawecki and Ryan Bridges each had two hits in the game.

The Mastodons return to action on April 1, when the team travels to the southwest corner of the state to take on the Aces of Evansville in a three-day, three-game series.
